Celebration of Importance Days

This year we observed many important days in various area of the Ganjam District including our office premises, Biswaniketan old age home and also Bhubenswer, Delhi, Kolkota. We observed the following mentioned programmes in this year:-

Utkal Diwas :
We celebrated the Utkal Diwas on 1s` April at Town Hall, Berhampur. With suporte of Govt. of Odisha IRPM department, Sub Collector, Berhampur etc. *0 writers are different part of south Odisha where participated with eminent citizen of locality. A seminar regarding MATRUBHASA O MAA NIMANTEY LEYKHAKARA BHUMIKA’ has organized and writers are read their own writing poem with story. In Morning School students from 10 high schools were invited to attend the holy occasion. Many dignitaries from the field of literature were invited as guest. The guests lightened the candle and gave floral tribute to the portrait of Gopabandhu Das & Madhusudan Das. We conducted a debate competition on Odiya language among the students. The winners were distributed Prizes and certificates by our honorable guests.

World Health Day: 
In April we organized a health camp at Ramachandra Pur and observed the World Health Day. People were informed through our local volunteers in Rangeilunda Block about the camp before 7 days. With our Doctors member we invited 3 Doctors and two medicine distribution stalls with the help of many medicine distributers to provide free health check up and free medicine distribution. Around 387 patients were reached to our Doctors in the camp. They were provided with free diagnosis
And medicines.. Many eye check up cases were referred to Hospitals. Pregnant women were provided with Iron and Calcium tablets. In the program eminent Health Practioners of the MKCG and City Hospital attended. Many kinds hearted Doctors rendered their help us.

International Red Cross Day :
We observed International Red Cross Day in a grand manner on 8th May 2016. We invited the youth and students. In the meeting our honorable Guests gave their tribute to Mother Teresa's portrait. They emphasized the importance of Blood donation and encouraged the youth to donate their blood regularly if they feel healthy. They also suggested the youth to get trained in different rescue and survival skills like first aid skill for disaster mitigation.

World No Tobacco Day :
The recent time is a crud witness of tobacco consumption among the children and youth. Offering partial comfort and thrilling in body it threatens good health and economic survival of our youth and adolescents. It is slowly taking our life from our hand. To sensitize our youth in this regard we observed World No Tobacco Day in a grand manner on 31' May 2015 at Satybhama kalyana mandam. Honorable Guest Dr.P c. Sahu, Senior physician, and Dr. Sontosha Padhy, Assistant Prof from MKCG Medical Collage was in a very enthusiastic spirit to address the rural youth. He advised them to have a simple life style with a good health physically and mentally, so that one could justify his personal life and professional career. He added without avoiding the tobacco consumption our youth cannot serve for nation building.

World Environment Day :
In recent years Environmental protection is a major issue. The world is fighting with the major issues like, global warming, waste management, ground water scarcity, decreasing and disturbing yearly rate of rainfall, earthquakes, dangerous changes in the glacier, more and more urbanization with industrial pollution, cutting of forest, forest animals trespassing to the townships, use of plastic and other non-perishable items in our daily life and so on. These issues are indicating that slowly we are going closer to the destruction of our planet. This is the time to realize the truth and protect our environment as best possible in our part. For this, the Mahan Sangha observed the World Environment Day on June 5th and about 150 participants attended the programme at Sidha binyak temple, hillpatna, Many volunteers, students of the schools and colleges attended and a debate competition was organized in this regard. The Winners were provided with prizes and certificates.

World Day against Child Labor :
In Odisha, school dropout rate is higher and there are many reasons like prohibiting girl child for higher studies after primary education, inadequate economic condition of the parents, poor teaching quality in schools, less teachers in the school, distance from the school, illiterate parents, more family pressure to earn. This leads the rural children to be set themselves in contractual works in industries or local farms or in agricultural sector. As they find less chance in local area to earn money they move towards outside the village or district or even state. Likewise they loss their education age and strived for a good health and a better future. As they are less qualified and earning a less amount, they just support their family up to a limited extent. But many of them changed their life style consuming liquor and other intoxicating things and also disturbed life styles like attracted towards prostitution and playing for money. Mahan Sangha knows it well that without taking them back or sensitizing people about the child Laborer’s painful life, the society cannot move towards a Better future. Hence, like each year we have conducted the World Awareness Day against Child Labour at Berhampur Municipal corporation 12' June. We also conducted a rally to the nearby villages and met the village people in the next day’s regarding the issue. Also mahan sangha associates with SP, Berhampur for this programme.

Independence Day :
On the holy occasion of Independence Day we celebrated a good number of competitions inter school level, Berhampur on 15th August 2015. Many students competed in debate, easy, drawing, jhoti, painting, song and dance competitions. The School administration cooperated a lot to organize competitions and encourage the students for their nation loving spirit. The competitions were finished from 3 days before the Independence Day. On the celebration day the Guests felicitated the winners with prizes and certificated. As a district level competition it was open for all students from all schools who got the news and able to participate in their respective events. 11
International Non-Violence Day/Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/
Foundation Day of Mahan Sangha :
This year we invited eminent personalities who have adopted Gandhi an principles in their life and enlightened the public in their career. Many retired teachers / Lecturers, Political representatives, cooperators , Non-Govt. Organization persons, state or central Govt. employees, volunteers, Health workers, students had participated in the programme. Dr. R.C. Chyau Patnaik, our Hon. -MLA of Berhampur Constituency was our Hon’ble -Guest of the occasion. With him we had also with us the Mayor of Municipality Corporation, Professors of Khallikote University, NSS Programme Officers and Youth leaders. Besides our members, about 285 participants attended our Foundation Day. We had a cultural programme dedicated to Gandhi an Ideology. Inspired by the patriotic essence of Mahatma Gandhi the whole world celebrates the Non-Violence Day on his birth day October 2'. The Mahan Sangha is celebrating this holy date as its Foundation day from 30 years of its establishment (since 2' October 1985). In this occasion all our life time members, executive body members, office bearers, volunteers, coordinating organizations have a get together. We celebrate it in a befitting manner. Also we observed Shantiduta S former Prime minister Sri Lala Bahadura Shastri Jyantiu.

International Girl Child Day on Oct 11th:
We observed the International Girl Child Day at our Biswaniketan o on 11th October. The Mahan Sangha organized the programme in the day time and the students had a open debate. We arranged a debate based on the violence against the girl child from her birth, throughout her life as daughter, student, friend, employee, mother and till her death. Taking the issues from the modern society and myths of the past, the students able to share their knowledge and perceptions towards the male-headed society and growing female-headed responsibilities and participations in the society. Members are co-operated us to celebrate the programme to its proper meaning. Many dist. level dignitaries were invited for this occasion.40 local lady with students attended the programme with their parents.

World AIDS Day:
Every year the world has been witnessed for the death by the infection of HIV/AIDs. Its eradication programme is running by many state and local NGOs with the full support from Govt. ART and ICTC centers established in district. In spite of so many programmes running to attack the disease, still now we are unable to get the clear information about the HIV infected persons due to fear of respect and ignorance among people. We organized the World AIDS Day at Our office on December 1st The youth members of the our sangha supported to awer the rickshaw puller of station area. A rally was organized and the Hillpatna area and gave slogans against AIDs.

National Youth Day(Birthday of Swami Vivekananda)

On January 12th 2016 we have organized the National Youth Day at Kyalni Mandap, Hillpatna , Berhampur with eminent personalities of Youth services. The programme was started with jayaghosh followed by the song "Bande Mataram". Members, NGOs representative and many youth volunteers celebrated the Birthday of Swami Vivekananda. An essay and debate competition was conducted among the students of different schools with the topic: "21" century-Youth in a cross road". Winners were facilitated with prizes and certificate. And a rally was organized from the gopabandhu stechu to Gandhi stechu with a theme green world peace world .students ,NGO’s are participated with flag cart and slogans .

Republic Day:
In the premises of our office in Hillpatna we have observed the Republic Day on January 26th. Our life members came and joined in a huge number. Mr. Susant Sabat President of Mahan Sangha hosted the National Flag lightened the candle and all gave floral tribute to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Sashtriji. In the holy occasion the members discussed about good governance.

International Womens' Day :
On the day 8th of March Mahan Sangha celebrated the International Women’s' Day at Church Ground ,Berhampur. We invited local women’s, and representative from women’s organization of nearby area voluntary organizations of Berhampur. Above 500 participants attended the programme. Public Representative, Eminent women social worker, Doctors and Lectures attended as Guest. They emphasize the position of a mother in the family, dignity of mother, dedication of mother towards her children. Jhoti, mehandi, hulahula, tradition pitha making competition organized among village women’s and prizes given to them by guests.

World Forestry Day :
In March 31"' we observed the World Forestry Day at our office. With many eminent intellects and NGO reprsentives were invited for the programme. We have discussed about the Global warming, irregular rain fall and decreasing forest area and their consequences to be felt in near future.

Festivals celebrated

We celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi on our office premises and in Biswaniketan . On the eve of Ganesh Puja we had a cultural programme with the participation of our members and local people in huge number. The villagers of Ramachandrapur visited the Biswaniketan old age home and joined in the festival. In the night a sanskrutika karykarm programme was conducted in the premises.

Trainings / Workshops:

We conducted skill programmes for marginalized women. Tailoring, knitting & embroidery & doll making trainings were conducted by the help of our helping local NGOs. The rural women and urban slum women were covered by this programme with a hope that they will learn and start earning. Many of our participants started their livelihood with the help of these skills. The aim was to help them to be self sufficient and also to organize. Likeminded women groups. This programme indirectly helped them to be grouped together and stand for social and economic sustainability. We are also planning to coordinate some corporate houses for the marketing of the products prepared by our women groups so that they will be more profited. 60 women from different villages and Berhampur slums were trained in different skills.

e) Environment Awareness Campaign:
Our organization conducted a Mass Plantation Project with the support from the organized a mass Campaign with the help of our supporter organizations.
We conducted three programmes and sensitized the people to plant trees and save their future. We

visited many villages and distributed the saplings. The rural youth have shown utmost interest and care for this programme.. Our volunteers sensitized the people including the school and college students of the villages through the drama and songs. Now the people of those projected villages are caring their environment feeling the responsibility for their future generations. And it was a great success for us.

Other activities carried out before this year

Environment Conservations
Environment conservation and suitable environment is the main thrust area of Mahan Sangha. To protect the environment and conserve rural resources number of awareness programmes were organized in both rural and urban areas of Ganjam district. The programme includes awareness camps on anti-polythene rally, workshops, plantation and publication and distribution of resource material in local languages. Ministry of Environment & forest, Govt. of India under the National Environment Awareness Campaign supported the activities.

Rural Development:
As part of development programme mahan Sangha implement specific projects on application of S&T for the development of underprivileged castes and rural poor people. One of the main objectives is development of low cost technologies; promote research conditions, and opportunities for gainful employment for women, particularly in rural areas. The target women who had undergone training in skills promotion and entrepreneurship were supported with credit facilities to start various micro-enterprises by forming; self help groups (SHG). Many projects has been implemented so far by Mahan Sangha having strong science and technology base which aim at the development of new technologies of transferring the available ones for the benefit of the needy. Mahan Sangha will implement an integrated approach for sustainable village development through improved technology in animal husbandry, kitchen garden, horticulture and agricultural practices.

Women And Child Welfare Our organization:
Has a special women’s' wing for the overall development of women’s'. Through this wing we organize no. of programmes like self help groups, seminars, work shop, conference regarding self defense and self depend of women as well as we are trying to develop the health and education of women with the help of national Commission for women (NCW), New Delhi, in the year 2002 We are organizing legal awareness programme and nutrition & health status of tribal women, We have a family counseling centre. We are specially taking care of children for their health and education. We are organizing no. of competition for their outlook development.

Health:
Our organization is sincerely thinking and working for health programmes. Specially we are organizing health camps at tribal and rural area as well as slam pockets of urban area. We also organized no of seminars and awareness programmes regarding AIDS, nutritional foods, hygienic, anti smoking and caring of pregnant women, adolescent girls reproductive health etc. The focus of Sangha is regulating fertility, promoting family planning acceptance and encouraging the use of modern health care Facilities. Emphasis is given to hygiene small family and different family planning a method are popularized. We are attempting to change general hygiene conditions and health seeking behavior among communities. We are planning to regular health centers one at tribal area another in coastal belt near Gopalpur.

Educational & Skill Development:
Mahan Sangha is organizing many programmes for the upliftment of the women, arranged many camps and workshops to provide training in relevant skills to make them economically self reliant. Mahan Sangha is currently imparting training to girls and women in various vocational activities to manic them self reliant. These income generative activities are tailoring, stitching, agarbati, soft toy and dolls making and painting etc. Organization had actively taken part in literacy programme of Ganjam Dist. "Sakhyar Ganjam Sundar Ganjam" on the Ganjam dist. in past years.

Road Safety programmes :
While the rapid growth in the population during the last three decades. There is increase in number of vehicles on the road. The main reasons for this situation is inefficient and very slow public transport system, un-awareness of traffic rules, use of bikes and mopeds by more number of adolescents and women, etc. People like to use their personal vehicle instead of using public vehicle. Besides the impact on fuel crisis, the accidental risk became the demon for the society. The rush traffic, causing not only noise and air population, but also it is increasing fatal accidents on roads. School going children are also facing similar threat to their life. Most of these accidents are caused due negligence and not obeying the rules of the roads. Mahan Sangha has been conducting many programmes for creating awareness of road safety among the general public and school children by organizing rallies. Awareness camps, street plays and lectures in schools by the financial assistance of state transport commissioner of Odisha. A road safety programme was organized in Chamakhandi High School and Kanisi High School adjacent of NH-5 in the occasion of Road Safety Week.

Consumer Awareness:
Today consumer is the king and big national and multinational companies are depending 20-35% of other expenses on popularizing the product. The middleman traders, service providers and shopkeepers are charging consumers more providing substandard items and not replacing defective or damaged goods. But due to lack of awareness among masses in general as consumers, they are suffering and nobody was there to provide redressed to their grievances. Keeping this in mind Mahan Sangha has been organizing consumer awareness programme in rural and urban areas of Ganjam District.

Legal Awareness: The Sangha has organized legal awareness programme on 16th to 18 October at Berhampur by the financial support of the National Women Commissioner, New Delhi and follow up the workshop. Sangha started free legal aid cell at the head office on every first Sunday of the month by the eminent members and is planning to organize legal awareness programmes for women in every block or Ganjam & Gajapati districts.

Disaster Management: The youth members of the Sangha are well trained to face the disaster, during the last super cyclone Mahan Sangha has done a tremendous work which was appreciated by the local public & district administration. The Sangha has constructed Pakka houses for Baliaput village for super cyclone affected people of Kukudakhandi Block of Ganjam district with the help of RSVK. Bangalore.

Annadan Yojna :
Sahgha has started a Annadan Yojna among the members and well wishers. A handful food grains collected every day by the members and well wishers are distributed once in a month to needy people and creates awareness among the people to save food.

Day Care Centre:
The grandparents of the society need some attention if not in the traditional way, in a professional way. So our organization started a Day care centre at Berhampur to provide care to the elder people of the society by institutionalizing a platform for the recreational, nutritional and medical facilities to make them feel that they are being loved and cared by the community.

School:
Mahan Sangha has started a School Bidya Vasudha at Berhampur for giving a good traditional and cultural basic quality education system.
Tribal Welfare For welfare of the tribal people organization has a tribal welfare office at Mahurigada near Kaunkia(Kerandimala Tribal area). We are organizing many projects like socioeconomic, health, education programmes for the development of tribal people.

Literature:
To encourage the literate people the organization has specially formed a literature wing, with the help of some literature people of the society under the chairmanship of the President, through this wing the Sangha has organized several literature programmes like Kavi Samilani and has also published some books. Sangha actively participates in Berhampur book fair every year

Exhibition:
We have organized and participated in different exhibitions to promote socio culture of state people. We successfully organized Berhampur Pragati Mahotsava, other exhibition and festivals. These festivals are showcase of socio culture excellence of Odisha. These events offer a unique opportunity to culture loving people of the state to witness Ganjam Pragati entire repertoire of performing arts. This also attracts tourists and our loving public from all parts of the state.

Culture:
For the development of the culture, to encourage the artists and student, Sangha has a cultural wing. Through this wing and with support of State Cultural Department and District Administrative, Sangha has organized several cultural programmes like street plays, dramas, cultural dance and music competition etc. Sangha actively supports to organize Dakhina Odisha Natak Mahotsav since 19 years.

Observation:
We observe international level, state level important days, like world health day, world environment day, Independence Day, republic day, Gandhi jayanti, Utkal Diwas, Birthdays of great leaders etc. To celebrate these days in the Sangha organizes different competitions, meetings seminars, padayatras, etc.

Sports:
Sangha has sports wing for development of the sports spirit among the youth and sportsmen. With the supportof state youth welfare board Odisha and others. Sangha has organized cricket and football tournament, Mahan Sangha marathon, Cycle rally, tracking programmes, etc.

Felicitation:
To encourage the eminent citizen, youth and for their betterment service towards the society the Sangha felicitates /honors them in the field of education, women and child welfare activities administration and police service, cultural, sports, social service, youth activities, etc. on every foundation day of Mahan Sangha i.e., on 2nd October. 16

Future Programme :
like our present programme Old age Home, we are also working to take some future programmes like Herbal gardens, Short stay homes for women, children’s home, regular health centre’s, hostel for working women and tribal students. Etc.
